Workshop
Group teaches West African rhytms and dances, mainly Senegalese, Gambian,
Guinease and Malian. Rhythms and dances have a strong interaction. They are
energetic and give people the joy of excersice. Workshops may be organized
in festivals, institutes, workplaces and cultural events. Workshop is
tailored according to customer’s needs.

Course: It is our pleasure once again to offer an unforgettable workshop in Senegal to all who enjoy African dancing and djembe drumming. The course is held in Dakar, the exciting capitalcity of Senegal. Mama Africa's workshop is focusedt to everyone who wants a versatile course. Most of the dances and rhytms are born, developing and changing in the city night life, in sabar parties or in clubs. That's why we want to give all the participants a change to see the genuine and real life in Dakar. Would you like to experience the rhytms of mbalax music in the clubs?
If you want to have sunny beaches beside of dancing, you'll certainly will get
what you want. Dakar has it all!
It is good if you already have the basic knowledge of djembe drumming or West African dancing, but beginners are also welcome to experience the African rhytms.
We want to offer a great variety of different styles, that's why we have invited many experts who may teach their own specialities.
The lessons are held daily from Monday to Friday, approximately 2,5 h 5 h/day, depending
on are you practising the drumming or/and dancing.
There are three different alternatives for the workshop:
1) 2 weeks EUR750,00
2) 3 weeks EUR950,00
3) 4 weeks EUR1100,00
Free-time: Afternoons and weekends are free. On free time we will visit the market places and museums in Dakar, the shocking Goré Island or the Lac Rose (also known as the pink lake). If you want, you may just relax and enjoy the beach life. In the evening we will certainly go to different clubs to see gigs (e.g. Youssou N'Dour, Thione Seck...). Don't forget your party clothes people in Senegal are well known of their style and outfits.
Accommodation and food: We will stay in the Yoff area by the sea. The course includes breakfast and two meals per day. Food is traditional Senegalese home made food, usually made of rice and fish. Beside everything else that Senegal has to offer, the countriy has a versatile gastronomy!
Please inform us by registration if you are vegetarian. Water from the pipes is safe to drink but we use a carbon filter.This is more nature friendly than buying plastic water bottles.
The workshop price includes:
- accommodation
- lessons and teaching
- food.
The price does NOT include:
- flights to Senegal
- travel insurance
- trips and leisure time.
Vaccinations: Vaccination for Yellow Fever is not required but higly
recommendated. The Malaria prevention medication, gammaglobulin and hepatitis
vaccination are highly recommendated. Please check your vaccinations from your
healt care center.
Travel insurance is necessary!

Registration is binding when the reservation fee EUR150,00 has been paid. The
reservation fee must be paid by 10 October at the latest. Reservation fee will
be refunded only against medical certificate. The rest of the sum must be paid
by 11 November at the latest.
